RUFORUM Community Action Research Programme

RUFORUM in partnership with mastercard foundation is implementing a programme known as “Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s growth and development (TAGDev)”. The TAGDev Programme seeks to transform African agricultural universities and their graduates to better respond to developmental challenges through enhanced application of science, technology, business and innovation for rural agricultural transformation. Under TAGDev, there is a specific focus on community action research designed to allow African universities develop and capitalise more comprehensive and sustainable participatory action research and establish platforms for engagement with all the stakeholders including the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.  The Programme is known as the Community Action Research Programme PLUS (CARP+). Each community action research project involve training graduates (PhD. and MSc.) and undergraduates in particular countries or geographic areas,  a selected commodities, and nest its research along the full commodity value chain. CARP+ Students Profiles

Ahmed Eltayeb Ismail (Sudanese) was born in 1982 in Alrrahad town of North Kordofan State, Sudan. He holds a Bachelor degree in Soil and Water Science from Faculty of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, University of Kordofan in 2006. Previously he worked as a Teacher at Higher Secondary Schools and He also joined Abu Habel Project of Agriculture in the State Ministry of Agriculture. Currently, he is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing Master of Science in Soil Sciences at University of Kordofan. His research title “Effect of Composted Chicken Manure and NPK Fertilizers on Soil Fertility and Productivity of Sorghum in Dry Land of North Kordofan State”. He is focusing on improving the Properties of soils in dry lands through the use of natural fertilizers and raise productivity of agricultural crops, especially Sorghum as staple food and a cash crops for most of the population in the state

Afrah Bakhat is a Sudanese. Currently, she awarded a Scholarship by Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+): Management of Natural Resource in Dry lands, pursuing a Master of Science in Agronomy at University Kordofan, Elobied, Sudan. Her research focuses on intercropping of cowpea, sorghum and Rosella and their growth Performance. She is interest on Smart Agriculture of rainfed sector in Dry lands of North Kordofan State. Afrah has a dream to become a high skilled scientist in agronomy specialize in development of Smart Agriculture in Africa.

Abdelmonem Yahya (Sudanese) was born in 1992 in South Darfur, Sudan. He awarded a Bachelor degree from the Department of Forestry, Collage of Forestry and Range Science, Sudan University of Science and Technology, and graduated with first class honors in 2017. Currently he is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing a Master of science in Forestry at University of Kordofan. His research title is on “Assessment and Mapping some of Natural Resources using remote sensing and GIS Technology”. He is holding a hope that his study will be disseminated across the country for sustainable management of natural resources to preserve the environment and meets the needs of rural communities.

Abdalla Alam Aldeen Altoum (Sudanese) was born in 1994. He holds a Bachelor degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, University of Kordofan, Sudan. Currently he is a beneficiary of Regional University Forum for Capacity Building in Agricultural (RUFORUM) Scholarship under RUFORUM Community Action Research Program (CARP+), pursuing a Master of Science in Bio Chemistry and Food Sciences at University of Kordofan, Sudan. His research focuses on “Effect of Some Post Harvest Treatments on the Nutrational proparities of Grains (Sorghum and Millet) in North Kordofan State”. The sorghum and millet post-harvest treatments has been affected by some biological effects that may influence the nutritional value

 

Maduo Opelo Kolanyane is a Botswana citizen who graduated from the then Botswana College of Agriculture but now Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources with a second class upper bachelor’s degree in Crop Science and Production: Horticulture in 2015. She is currently a first year, RUFORUM CARP+ project Scholarship beneficiary, pursuing a Masters in Crop science of Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources with a major focus in Horticulture. Maduo has worked with several farmers in their farms as an Assistant Farm Manager to help them improve their food production techniques. Her enthusiasm on the agricultural crop production industry is her strongest motivation  that drives her to find a way to change her fellow citizen farmers’ mindset when it comes to sustainable agricultural production in their country. This has and will continue being a great opportunity for her to build her career as a scientist as well as helping her country drive towards a food secure nation

Ruhma Gaffer M. Abdallah is a sudanese and a graduate from University of Kordofan with a first class bachelor in Food Sciences and Biochemistry 2008. Rujma works with cooperate with Ministry of Health and a scholar of RUFORUM and registered at University of Al slam since 2018. Since October we works in the honey beeresearch focus on Royal jelly and investigation of physic chemical, microbial, medical analysis and quality aspects

 

 

Alaa Mustafa is a Sudanese who graduated from Gezira University with a second class upper bachelor’s Honors degree in Agricultural Sciences 2018. She is currently a first year, RUFORUM CARP+ project Scholarship beneficiary, pursuing a Masters in Agricultural Sciences of Gezira University with a major focus in Crop protection. Alaa has worked with Agricultural Research Corporation - Wad Madani (Sudan) between Augusts - September2017 as a volunteer in Integrated Agricultural Pest Management Research Center. Her agricultural background is her strongest pillar in this regard and she believes that beekeeping and the marketing of it is products exist in a very traditional way, therefore her must contribute greatly to the development of this sector because of the importance of bees in pollination and it is close link to agriculture, she believes that the progress of a agriculture in Sudan in particular and Africa in general is upon us.

Osman Adam Ali Yahya is a Sudanese who graduated from University of Gezira with BSc (Honours) degree Division One class Two in Crop protection 2017. He is currently a second year, RUFORUM CARP+ project Scholarship beneficiary, pursuing a Masters in Crops protection with a major focus in Crop protection. Ahmed has worked with Peace University - Elfula (Sudan), between December2018 – 2020 as a volunteer in Crops protection. His agricultural knowledge, and skills are his motivated pillars in this regard, and he,believes it will comfortably make him to drive a change in the step farmers think about some sustainable agricultural interventions starting from the outcomes of his own personal research, and this will his suitable direction to build his career as a scientist among his colleagues in the fields of Agriculture
