Biography

Professor dr Paul Mapfumo is the sitting Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe. Professor Mapfumo has been championing the University’s actualisation of the Government of Zimbabwe’s new Heritage-based Education 5.0 Philosophy, which embraces Innovation and Industrialisation in addition to Teaching and Learning, Community Service and Research. He has led the transformation of the University of Zimbabwe for the development of new academic programmes and skill sets towards establishment of new generation of companies and entrepreneurs and production of goods and services, in response to current and future needs of industry, commerce and society.  Professor Mapfumo holds a PhD in Soil Science,  is a full Professor and an internationally renowned researcher, academic, scientist who has authored over 150 refereed articles.  He is a policy advisor known for his exceptional strength in design and critical strategic thinking, and has contributed immensely in the conceptualisation and implementation of scientific research and innovation programmes in Africa and globally.  Professor Mapfumo serves on several national and international Technical and Advisory Boards.  He is the current Chairman for the National Manpower Advisory Council (NAMACO) and also Vice Chairman for the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) among other responsibilities.
