HE Prof. M. Belhocine

African Union Commission (AUC)

Biography

His Excellency Prof. Mohammed Belhocine is the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation at the African Union Commission (AUC). He is a Medical Scientist and Professor of Internal Medicine and Epidemiology. He has more than 40 years’ experience, including 14 years in International Public Health and Development Programs in Africa. Prior to joining AUC, he held various positions in the People`s Democratic Republic of Algeria, at the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Algiers and the Ministry of Health. His Excellency was the Former Director of the Division of Non-Communicable Diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa in Zimbabwe, Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Guinea where he was playing an active role in providing technical support and expertise to the country's response to the Ebola Epidemic. He was assigned by the President of the People`s Democratic Republic of Algeria as a Member of the Scientific Committee, with the task of monitoring epidemiological investigations around confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19.
